As several states prepare for recounts and the final presidential vote has yet to be finalized, voters are reminded of ensuring the integrity of elections, particularly those with a slim margin, from all irregularities.

As of 6 p.m. Thursday, Joe Biden is ahead in five key states with only slim margins.

Latest vote counts show Trump trailing in Georgia by 14,071 votes, Arizona by 11,390 votes, Wisconsin by 20,540 votes, Pennsylvania by 55,570 votes and Nevada by 36,866 votes.

The Trump campaign has already expressed its intention to request a recount in several states.

In 2018, problems with voting machines in Johnson County resulted in thousands of voters waiting in line for hours,

The Indiana Secretary of State’s office later filed a scathing report on Election Systems & Software (ES&S), which provided the voting machines to the county.

“ES&S offered Johnson County a work-around to allow voters to be checked in at the vote centers,” the report says. “However, this work-around resulted in electronic poll books not being able to communicate between vote centers in Johnson County. This solution was not in compliance with the Indiana Election Code.”

ES&S is one of the three largest voting machine companies and is used in 42 states by 4,500 local governments. It’s also used in two U.S. territories.

A former county clerk recently said the voting machines were vulnerable to manipulation.

This incident is a good reminder why allowing for a full canvass in a tight race is worth the wait.
