“Social Media Page Created Simply to Say Thank You Grows by Hundreds Overnight ”

Clark-Pleasant mother and grandmother, Lynn Fahy said when she thought some of the current community social media sites became increasingly negative she decided to do something about it so she created “Clark-Pleasant Cares for Teachers”, a private Facebook group of nearly 400 and growing. She says it’s simply to show appreciation and support for teachers and staff members. “We really just wanted to combat the growing negativity that started over students and staff being required to wear masks”. Fahy says she wasn’t expecting hundreds to support the page so quickly.“Those poor teachers, those poor staff members, what they must be going through”. And those online groups that had become so negative; she left them.
Another goal of the group is to show tangible support for teachers in the form of preparing care packages for all 955 staff members. These packages include, post-it-notes, index cards, pens, hand sanitizer, stress balls and a personal note for each staff member. At a cost of $10 to $15 dollars each, Fahy says donations are pouring in thanks to a Go Fund Me page. The goal is to deliver all of the packages before Fall Break which begins October 15th. “I’ve had teachers reach out to say thank you and we just wanted to make sure they start their break with a nice send-off so they can relax after a somewhat stressful start to the school year”. She says one teacher even had tears in her eyes over the kindness being promoted by the group. She says anyone can join the “Clark-Pleasant Cares for Teachers” group if they abide by the rules and there’s really only one; no hate speech!. Fahy says teachers have been dealing with constant criticism from parents and students who’ve been told to disobey rules like mask requirements along with the everyday issues of helping students understand the rigors of their regular classes.
WISH TV News 8 reporter Stephanie Esquivel says the story will air on Friday evening.
