Changes Coming to Utility Billing Cycles

Martinsvillen

City of Martinsville recently issued the following announcement.

Beginning January 2022 the billing cycles for the Martinsville Utilities will be changing to staggard billing dates rather than all the bills going out on the same date. With the new procedures, bills will be issued each week for a different part of the city. Specifically, customers whose account begin with:

1, 2, 3, or 4 will be billed the first week of the month

5, 6, 7, 8, or 17 will be billed the second week of the month

9, 10, 11, or 12 will be billed the third week of the month

13, 14, 15, 16, 18, or 19 will be billed the fourth week of the month

During the first month of the transition, those in the first group may receive two bills within days of each other. Under the new system, bills will be mailed at the end of the week that the meters are read, not at the beginning of the following month as has been done under the current billing process. Even with the transition, customers will still only be billed for the previous four weeks’

usage.

Mayor Kenny Costin stated, “When reviewing the utility bill, it will be important to note the read/usage dates. These days will not overlap.” The mayor also pointed out that January 2022 will

be the only month when customers will receive two bills and moving forward billing will be monthly and current
