Dawn Holder Art Exhibit Lecture and Opening Reception

The Franklin College Art Department will welcome its first guest artist exhibit of the 2022-2023 academic year to campus in September. The exhibition is titled: “Weep, Their Banner of Monument.”

Dawn Holder, who investigates various elements of landscape and their socio-cultural significance through ceramics, photography and mixed media, will exhibit her work in the Elba L. & Gene Portteus Branigin Atrium, located in the Johnson Center for Fine Arts. She will open the exhibit with a lecture, “Weep, Their Banner: Fallen Monuments,” at 7 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 12 in the Henderson Conference Room, also located in the Johnson Center for Fine Arts. An opening reception will follow the lecture.

Holder is an associate professor of studio art at IUPUI’s Herron School of Art and Design and currently serves as the graduate director of the MFA in Visual Arts program. She is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the Grand Prize at the 59th Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts in 2017, and the Grand Prize at the 4x4 2018 Midwest Invitational Exhibition at the Springfield Art Museum in Missouri. In 2019, she was awarded grants from the Lighton International Artist Exchange Program and the Arkansas Arts Council Sally A. Williams Fund. She has attended residencies at Red Lodge Clay Center, the Hambidge Center, Pentaculum at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, CRETA Rome, and Guldagergaard International Ceramics Research Center.
