Dr. Anthony Sanders of Indianapolis Sinus Center said some chronic headaches result from sinus issues, and his team can help to figure out the source of your headaches.
"A sinus headache is due to inflammation in your nose and sinuses," Sanders told South Indy News. "It's a difficult problem that tends to be chronic. A lot of people initially are managed with medical treatments such as antibiotics, along with adjunctive-type medicines, such as saline irrigations, intranasal steroid sprays, sometimes decongestants or mucus thinning agents like Mucinex. People who do not respond to that, then [need to seek] other treatment options."
According to Mayo Clinic, one of the symptoms of both sinus headaches and migraines is that pain sometimes worsens while laying down or bending over. Other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting or sensitivity to light and noise are symptoms of migraines, not sinus headaches.
If you have a sinus headache, it could be the result of a sinus inflammation. Your sinuses are spaces inside your forehead, cheekbones and behind the bridge of your nose that are filled with air, according to WebMD. When your sinuses get inflamed, they swell, make more mucus, and the channels that drain them can get blocked. The accumulation in pressure in your sinuses causes pain that feels like a headache. It's important to figure out what kind of headache you have, so the right course of action can be taken to relieve your pain.
Dealing with headaches can be a nuisance, but Sanders and his team at Indianapolis Sinus Center can help diagnose problems that come about from a sinus issue and help find the treatment you need.
