HCAC 2021-22 Men’s Tennis Notebook, Week 17

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) men’s tennis teams competed in week 17 of the 2021-22 season.

Around the League: HCAC Men’s Tennis Schedule

Athlete of the Week: Owen Reynolds (Gilbert, Ariz.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | First-Year – Reynolds finished 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play to help Rose-Hulman clinch its sixth HCAC regular season championship since 2015. 

Reynolds won in straight sets in singles play against both Anderson and Franklin. 

He also won at No. 1 doubles against Anderson and No. 2 doubles at Franklin.

Notable Performances:

  • Cory Evans (Middletown, Ind.) Anderson University | Junior - Evans went 2-1 in doubles and 2-1 in singles this week. Against Capital, Evans won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. Against Ohio Christian, Evans secured a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Against Rose-Hulman, Evans fell at No. 2 doubles 8-4 and at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-3.
  • Matt Leming (Indianapolis, Ind.) Franklin College | Senior – Leming went a perfect 3-0 in No. 3 doubles matches and went 2-1 in singles play for the Grizzlies over the weekend. He sealed Saturday's win over Capital with a dramatic 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8 win at No. 5 singles for the deciding point.
  • Nick McNamee (Belfry, Ky.) Transylvania University | Senior - McNamee went 1-0 in the No. 1 doubles spot with an impressive 8-0 win vs Manchester University. McNamee also won No. 1 singles with 6-0 and 6-4 wins to make it three wins in a row in the No. 1 singles spot.
