2022 HCAC Baseball All Conference and Awards Announced

Following the 2022 season, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the Baseball major award winners and members of the All-Conference Teams.

Following a stellar senior campaign, Josh Mesenbrink (Troy, Ill.) from Rose- Hulman Institute of Technology was named the 2022 HCAC Player of the Year in a vote among coaches. Mesenbrink started in all 18 conference contests for the Fightin’ Engineers, boasting a hot .425 hitting percentage, the second best mark in the conference. Mesenbrink racked up 27 runs, 31 hits, six doubles, three triples, nine homeruns and 25 RBI in 2022. He also has an impressive .959 slugging percentage and a .511 on base percentage. Messenbrink was solid for Rose-Hulman in the field, with a league leading 141 catches, 135 putouts and six assists, all behind 1.000 percent fielding percentage.

On the mound, it was Franklin College’s Nick McClanahan (Union, Ky.) who was tabbed as the 2022 HCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Year. The senior pieced together an impressive campaign, going 4-0 in six starts with 38 innings pitched. He was second in the league in strikeouts with 54, including 13 looking, with a 3.79 ERA.

Anderson University had a fresh face earn recognition, with Jake Stank (McCordsville, Ind.) voted as the 2022 HCAC Baseball Newcomer of the Year. The first year was a leader at the plate in the HCAC, with a .371 batting average and an impressive 1.103 on base percentage. Stank started every contest for the Ravens, with 26 hits, four doubles, four triples and three homeruns. He also batted in 18 RBI over the course of 2022, with a .671 sugging percentage.  

Franklin skipper Lance Marshall led the Grizzlies to a regular season title with a 29-12 regular season record. For his efforts, Marshall was voted as the 2022 HCAC Coach of the Year by his peers.

Player of the Year: Josh Mesenbrink, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Pitcher of the Year: Nick McClanahan, Franklin College

Newcomer of the Year:  Jake Stank, Anderson University

Coach of the Year: Lance Marshall, Franklin College

The HCAC also honors an All-Conference First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention. The members of those teams are selected by a vote of league coaches and are listed below.
