HCAC 2022-23 Women’s Tennis Notebook, Week 6

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) women’s tennis teams competed in week six of the 2022-23 season.

 Athlete of the Week:

Christina Duvall (Lexington, Ky.) Transylvania University | Senior - In HCAC play the Pioneers faced Rose-Hulman and Manchester to finish conference play undefeated. Duvall won 6-1, 6-1 in singles against Ella Dorfmueller from Rose-Hulman. Against Manchester she defeated Cortney Trusty 6-1,6-1. In No. 2 doubles with Maddy Williams, she won 8-0.

 

Notable Performances:

  • Megan Long (New Palestine, Ind.) Anderson University | Junior - Long went 4-0 on the week, going 2-0 at No. 1 Singles and 2-0 at No. 2 Doubles. Long earned an 8-1 victory against Franklin at No. 2 Doubles. Long then posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Franklin at No. 1 Singles. Long locked up an 8-1 victory against Hanover at No. 2 Doubles. Long then battled past the Panthers with a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-1) win at No. 1 Singles.
  • Maddie Cherry (Las Vegas, Nv.) Earlham College | Sophomore - Cherry continued her season at No. 1 singles with two sweeps in conference play. Cherry outscored her opponents by a combined 24-0 this week.
  • Bethany Burton (Edinburgh, Ind.) Franklin College | First-Year – Burton won both of her matches last week in contests against Anderson and Earlham. She was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at the No. 5 singles spot against Anderson and triumphed 6-3, 6-3 in her first showing at No. 3 singles against Earlham on Saturday.
  • Ella Knight (Leesburg, Ind.) Manchester University | Senior – Knight went 2-2 this week. She had a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles in the teams 8-1 win over Albion. She had great fights in her matches against Transy this weekend including tight matches at No. 1 doubles 7-8 (2) and NO. 1 singles 6-3, 2-6, [5-10]
