HCAC 2022-23 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Notebook, Week 4

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) swimming and diving teams competed in week four of the 2022-23 season.

Athletes of the Week:

Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week:

Blaise Swartwood (Honolulu, Hawaii) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | First-Year – Smartwood won the 200-butterfly (1:58.96), 200-individual medley (2:01.07) and 200-breaststroke (2:16.49) events as the Fightin' Engineers defeated Wabash 186-110 in dual meet action on Friday.

Men’s Diving Athlete of the Week:

Matthew Hayward (Fort Wayne, Ind.) Anderson University | Junior - Hayward posted a six-dive 1-meter diving score of 236.65 points to capture first during Saturday's Halloween Invitational. He recorded an average of 39.44 points per dive.

Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week:

Sami Monarch (Shelbyville, Ind.) Transylvania University | Senior - Monarch competed in a double dual meet with Wittenberg and Wilmington this weekend. Monarch notched a 33.05 second section of the 200 medley relay (won), won the 50 free in 28.66, 100m free was 104.48 for second place, and then won another relay with 200m freestyle contributing a 29.34.

Women’s Diving Athlete of the Week:

Audrey Hankins (Lynn Haven, Fla.) Rose-Human Institute of Technology | Sophomore – Hankins won 1-meter diving at the Illinois Wesleyan Halloween Invitational with a score of 170.65 points to help Rose-Hulman place third as a team in the event.

 

 

Notable Performances:

Men’s

Reid Haney (Goshen, Ind.) Anderson University | First Year - Haney captured second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:07.89 during Saturday's Halloween Invitational. Haney also competed on the 4x125 freestyle relay and the 4x50 freestyle relay.

John Dinkel (Alexandria, Va.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Sophomore – Dinkel placed second in 1-meter diving (214.35) and in 3-metr diving (210.20) as Rose-Hulman defeated Wabash 186-110 in dual meet action on Friday.

Kole Brannock (Georgetown, Ky.) Transylvania University | First Year - Brannock helped the Pioneers to a 200 medley relay win with a 28.12, won the 100m backstroke in 1:00.92, and then won the 200m backstroke in 2:17.08.

Women’s

Lauryn Shane (Greentown, Ind.) Anderson University | Sophomore - Shane finished 14th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:07.45. She also competed on the 3x100 butterfly relay, 4x50 medley relay, and 3x100 medley relay.

Nora Logsdon (Upland, Calif.) Anderson University | First Year - Logsdon secured fourth in the 1-meter diving event, turning in a score of 120.25 points and an average of 20.04 points per dive.

Natalija Pumpurs (Woodbridge, Va.) Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology | Senior - Pumpurs led Rose-Hulman's third place finish at Illinois Wesleyan with a fifth place finish in the 200 Back and a third place finish in the 200 Free Relay.
