HCAC 2022-23 Women’s Basketball Notebook, Week 1

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) women’s basketball teams competed in week one of the 2022-23 season.

Athlete of the Week:
Lexi Dellinger (Berne, Ind.) Anderson University | Guard | Graduate Student - Dellinger posted averages of 29.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals as Anderson went 1-1 during the Mountain Top Classic in Lookout Mountain, Ga. Dellinger's week was highlighted by her 40-point performance during Anderson's win against Brevard, the second-highest single-game point total in school history. She also went 14-15 from the free-throw line, marking the third-most free throws drained in a single game in school history. Dellinger also tallied eight rebounds, four steals and three assists against Brevard. On Friday against Covenant, Dellinger provided 19 points and five steals. 

Notable Performances:

Lacie Fenstermaker (Leipsic, Ohio) Bluffton University | Forward | First Year - Fenstermaker dominated the Fighting Scots in her collegiate debut, dropping in 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting in just 18 minutes of action. She added five rebounds and three steals with a three-pointer as Bluffton spanked Wooster 77-36 on Saturday night.

Taylor Day (West Mansfield, Ohio) Defiance College | Guard | Graduate School - Day topped the stat sheet for the Yellow Jackets in both points and rebounds during their season-opening loss at Kenyon. Day notched a double-double featuring 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Grace Bezold (Covington, Ky.) Hanover College | Guard | Sophomore - Bezold led the Panthers at the Wheaton Tournament as the Panthers defeated both Wheaton and Elmhurst. The sophomore was named the. Tournament MVP. In the contest with Elmhurst she picked up a double-double before netting a team high 23 against Wheaton.

Jessie Ringen (Rensselaer, Ind.) Manchester University | Guard | Senior - Over the weekend, the Spartans competed in the Teammates for Life Tip-off Tourney hosted by Westminster College (PA). During MU's first game against Mount Union, Ringen had eight points, six rebounds, and one steal to make her collegiate debut. Ringen then led the Spartans on Sunday against Kalamazoo with 12 points and three steals to help lead Manchester to their first win of the season. Ringen was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Madison Drummonds (Hebron, Ky.) Mount St. Joseph University | Forward | Junior - Drummonds was fantastic in her first action in the blue and gold this week. In the Lions season opener vs. Wilmington she had a double-double scoring 26 points and pulling in 10 rebounds. Then in their first win of the season vs. Heidelberg on Sunday she had another double-double scoring 18 points and pulling in 10 boards. For the week she averaged 19.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while shooting 53 percent from the field.
