RECAP | O'Day Breaks Two Program Records, Grizzlies Place Second on Friday Night

The Franklin women's track and field team is heading into next weekend's indoor conference championships on a high after a strong showing at Rose-Hulman's Friday Night Spikes Tune-Up on Friday (Feb. 17) evening.

 

The Grizzlies collected 96 points to finish second overall behind host Rose-Hulman and ahead of three other conference opponents.

 

One Grizzly claimed two new program records at Friday night's event, with junior Sarah O'Day setting new bench marks in a pair of sprint events. O'Day won the 200m dash with a blazing time of 26.58, breaking Sarah Miller's 2017 mark and becoming the first woman in program history to run the event in under 27 seconds. O'Day also took second in the 60m dash with a mark of 7.93 seconds, breaking the record held by Natavia Howell since 2015.

 

Franklin won a second event when Alison Muck claimed the top spot in the high jump, clearing the 1.45m bar. Muck also placed fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 28.29 seconds. Franklin picked up four more runner-up finishes on the night courtesy of Haley Makowski in the 800m (2:29.35), Jill Anspaugh in the mile (5:41.87), Aloria Kines in the shot put (10.72m) and the 4x400m relay of Makowski, Angelina Gregory, Lex Desenberg and Mallory Watson (4:26.86).

 

Other notable finishes for the Grizzlies included:

•    Gregory; 3rd ih the 800m in 2:35.03

•    Desenberg; 4th in the 400m in 1:05.08

•    Ella Bashor; 4th in the mile in 5:55.46

•    Kines; 4th in the weight throw, 12.72m

•    Josie Lyons; 5th in the 60m hurdles in 11.26

•    Averi Phelps; 5th in the shot put, 9.63m

•    Taylor Tatlock; 7th in the weight throw, 12.53m
